Ora-Pro-Nóbis: Cultivo E Uso Como Alimento Humano

Abstract

RESUMO:O governo brasileiro incentiva o consumo de hortaliças não convencionais como forma de aproveitamento da biodiversidade brasileira e suprimento de necessidades nutricionais de forma viável à população. A Ora-pro-nóbis (Pereskia aculeata Miller) é uma hortaliça nativa brasileira que se propaga facilmente e seu cultivo apresenta baixa incidência de doenças e demanda hídrica. A hortaliça é viável para o cultivo doméstico, como fonte nutricional de baixo custo, recomendada para o consumo diário na alimentação. O presente texto analisa os resultados das ações de extensão, desenvolvidas por membros do Instituto Federal do Triângulo Mineiro (IFTM), nas quais é proposto ampliar o cultivo e o uso na alimentação humana da Ora-pro-nóbis. As atividades foram conduzidas por uma equipe de alunas de graduação e professores, com a distribuição de mudas aos moradores da zona rural e urbana do município de Uberlândia-MG, para que fossem plantadas, cultivadas e incluídas no elenco de hortaliças consumidas pelas famílias atendidas. Os dados apresentados revelam interesse da população na cultura da planta, porém o uso efetivo na alimentação ainda ficou restrito a poucas famílias envolvidas no projeto, revelando ainda haver o desafio de estimular os que plantaram a consumi-la e aumentar a frequência do consumo para os que já o fazem. Ora-pro-nobis (Pereskia aculeata Miller) is a Brazilian leaf vegetable that easily propagates and has low disease incidence and water demand. It is nutritional, cheap and feasible for domestic cultivation, so it is indicated for daily consumption. This paper discusses the results of extension actions that aimed to expand ora-pro-nobis cultivation and its use in dietary consumption. The actions were carried out by undergraduate students and teachers of the Federal Institute of Triângulo Mineiro (IFTM), who distributed seedlings to be planted, cultivated and consumed by residents of rural and urban areas of Uberlândia, Minas Gerais state. The results showed the population had interest in cultivating the leaf vegetable, but few families involved in the project effectively consumed it. Therefore, the challenge now is to encourage ora-pro-nobis consumption by those who planted it and increase its consumption by those who have already included it in their diets.
