Optimization of Turning Process By Using Taguchi Method

Abstract: In this study, AISI 1040 steel is machined on CNC lathes. Taguchi L16 ortogonal array was used as experimental design. Experiments were carried out with selected the three cutting parameters. These parameters were determined as feed rate, cutting speed and cutting depth. Turning operation was carried out in dry conditions with diamond cutting tools. At the end of experiments, the values of surface roughness (Rz) on samples were found. Signal/Noise (S/N) rates were found with using the Taguchi method. According… Show more

“…Reduction of the energy consumption of machine tools and investigation of measures to be taken to realize clean production are of great importance in those production processes where a large amount of energy is consumed. In order to achieve this, it is necessary to calculate the energy consumption in the computerized numerically controlled (CNC) machine center [8,9]. The relationship between electrical energy consumption of the machine tool and the cutting process should be examined with the aim of achieving better energy efficiency associated with the production process.…”

“…Yıllık enerji tüketimi ve gürültü seviyesi (L WA ) oranlarının küçük olması ile ürün enerji ve performans avantajı sağlayacağından kalite karakteristiği (ayırıcı nitelik) olarak "(S/N), en küçük-en iyisi" seçilmiştir. [27]. Deney sonucunda elde edilen değerlerin her birinin S/N oranları, en verimli noktadaki debi (m 3 /h), yıllık enerji tüketimi (kWh), maksimum devirde debi (m 3 /h), gürültü seviyesi (dB) ve yağ verimlilik endeksi (G FE %) değerleri Taguchi yöntemi ile hesaplanarak Tablo 5'te gösterilmiştir.…”

“…The S/N ratio is a tool that statistically measures the performance characteristics of the Taguchi method, and it is a logarithmic function of the response defined as the aim function [16][17][18]. In this study, since the small of MEK concentration (ppm) values measured while the hood is operating will provide a performance advantage in the product, "(S/N), the smallest-the best" has been chosen as the quality characteristic (distinctive feature) [19]. S/N ratios of each of the values obtained as a result of the experiment, MEK concentration (ppm) value measured while the hood is operating were calculated by Taguchi method and shown in Table 4.…”
