Optimization of the process parameters for the removal of reactive yellow dye by the low cost Setaria verticillata carbon using response surface methodology: Thermodynamic, kinetic, and equilibrium studies

Abstract: A low cost adsorbent prepared from material of biological origin Setaria verticillata (Grasses) has been utilized as an adsorbent for the removal of Reactive Yellow 15 (RY15) dye from an aqueous solution. The combined effect of the initial pH, adsorbent dose, and initial dye concentration was investigated using Response Surface Methodology (RSM). The most influential adsorption factor on each adsorption experimental design response was identified from the Analysis Of Variance (ANOVA). The experimental values o… Show more

“…Due to the economic viability of the melanin production; the optimization of the parameters are a pre-requisite (Guo et al, 2014). The chemometrics are the most promising tools for the proces and product optimization, finding pervasive applications (Karthikeyan et al, 2014;Vidhyadevi et al, 2014;Kumar et al, 2012).The present study describes melanin production from actinomycete isolated from Gulf of Khambhat (GoK) and also focuses on screening of macronutrients and quantifying operational parameters using chemometrics. The research also evaluates the antibacterial and antioxidant activities of the purified melanin against the abiotic stresses.…”

“…A c c e p t e d M a n u s c r i p t 6 The most usual adsorbent is activated carbon, which appears especially useful for the removal of organic pollutants [21][22][23]. However, due to their cost, the replacement of commercial activated carbon by naturally available and low-cost adsorbents has attracted considerable interest in recent years.…”

“…This equation can singly be applied on adsorption data to identify whether the adsorption is monolayer or heterogenous. Numbers of papers have reported the suitability of R-P isotherm over Langmuir and Freundlich equations describing adsorption systems [33][34][35]. R-P proposed the following nonlinear equation:…”
