“…Recently, the use of a relay with suited channel conditions to deliver messages from the source to multiple destinations in a small area has been addressed, and the capacity region bounds for relay-aided multiple multicast system are provided in [4], demonstrating the benefits of CR. Cooperative multicast has been widely investigated in [30] for performance analysis in terms of improved transmission rate, in [31] for the cognitive aspect, in [32] for the joint use with multiple antenna system and in [33,34] jointly with the adoption of network coding technique.…”

“…The Network Coding (NC) approach, starting from the work of Ahlswede et al [16] for wired networks, has recently gained more attraction in wireless terrestrial networks [17][18][19][20] and can be a key enabling technology for 5G/satellite, mainly for reliable multicast services. NC techniques applied to satellite networks allow: (1) reducing the overall capacity needed to transfer data between peers, saving bandwidth in forward link; and (2) increasing network robustness in the case of residual packet erasures after the channel coding operations performed at the physical layer.…”

“…Successive relay techniques [9] are analyzed to improve the spectral efficiency of HD relays, in which a pair of relays is selected, and while one relay receives data from the source, the other transmits the previously received data to the destination. The use of a buffer at the relay nodes, "buffer-aided relaying methods", as in [10][11][12][13][14][15], increases the spectral efficiency with respect to HD relaying without a buffer. This approach allows for selecting the best HD buffer-aided relay among the various relay-destination links (opportunistic relaying schemes), to transmit the data if the channel conditions are good or buffer it otherwise, as in max-max relay selection by Ikhlef et al [16] or the max-link relay selection scheme by Krikidis et al [17].…”
