Abstract: Summary This paper aims at specifying the optimal allocation of a hybrid supercapacitor‐vanadium redox flow battery (VRB) energy storage system (ESS) for maintaining power balance of active distribution networks (ADNs) for wind power applications. Correspondingly, an optimal allocation approach for the hybrid ESS considering the application scenarios of supercapacitor ESS and VRB ESS was proposed. The supercapacitor ESS was used for restraining the high‐frequency components of net load power and a net load pow… Show more

“…The installation rooftop PV installation is a contemporary form of distributed generation wherein customers are equipped with 2 of 16 generation and selling of electric power as well, forming a bi-directional power flow from conventional load buses [7]. Consequently, this type of decentralized power generation will explicitly limit the controllability of power flow and as a result, the system will be vulnerable to voltage violation and other power quality issues [8]. Henceforth, the concept of an energy storage system (ESS) has been adopted to provide ancillary support for optimal generation, transmission and demand side management [9][10][11].…”

“…Because WTPC models are determined by the model parameters, parameter estimation methods have been widely studied. As shown in previous studies, [10][11][12] the least-square methods were usually employed to estimate parameters of WTPCs. However, prior knowledge about these estimated parameters are required, and improper parameter initializations may lead to non-optimal solutions.…”
