Optically observed multiple inter-chain interactions in polyblend semiconducting polymer nanoparticles

Abstract: Tunable nanoparticle photoluminescence was observed in nanoparticles formed from a polyblend of F8BT, MEH-PPV, and CN-PPV. This phenomena was attributed to direct and indirect inter-chain interactions between the polymers within each nanoparticle.

“…The spectra show three absorption bands in line with literature [4,5] which can be attributed to the transitions into excited singlet states. The third harmonic of the driving laser for the plasma source at 343 nm is, thus, well suited for excitation into the S2 state which will relax ultrafast into S1 and through intersystem crossing to the first triplet state T1.…”

“…For instance, Liu et al integrated biodegradable PLGA with Pdots with an excess of −COOH groups on the surface. 124 The nanoparticles were fabricated by a modified solvent extraction/evaporation miniemulsion method with PVA as the stabilizer. The carboxyl groups on PLGA could be used for further conjugation with folates for specific targeting.…”

“…Surface engineering of Pdots can improve the cellular targeting specificity and affect the circulation time of Pdots in blood at the same time. For instance, Liu et al integrated biodegradable PLGA with Pdots with an excess of −COOH groups on the surface . The nanoparticles were fabricated by a modified solvent extraction/evaporation miniemulsion method with PVA as the stabilizer.…”

“…The two polymer compounds were chosen expecting a considerable difference between green (F8BT) and orange/red (MEH‐PPV) emission. [ 20 ] The F8BT material batch used for this study, however, exhibited orange light emission, resulting in similar emission spectra for both compounds. While a blend of F8BT and PFO (Poly(9,9‐di‐ n ‐octylfluorenyl‐2,7‐diyl)), which is commonly used for polymer OLEDs, [ 21 ] yielded the expected green emission color, the absorption spectrum of PFO was not suitable for type B devices.…”
