“…where m and c indicate the electron mass and speed of light. The inferred value is comparable with the reported one (16 p nm) from our previous emittance measurement of this fiberbased source, 25 reflecting that space-charge induced emittance degradation caused by beam focusing is negligible for experimental conditions relevant for diffraction. We then characterized the temporal length of the electron bunch by using a home-built laser-triggered streak camera previously demonstrated in Ref.…”

“…In this letter, we present an optical fiber-based ultrafast low-energy electron gun that has several advantages over nanotip-based or conventional planar optical window-based electron guns in ultrafast streaking. As demonstrated by our previous work, 25 the fiber-based electron source is prepared by coating of the electron emitting layer directly to the fiber end and back-illuminated by the photoinjection beam. This work takes explicit advantage of the functionality of tailoring geometrical parameters of the fiber and its coupling to the photoinjection beam.…”

“…The optical fibre-based photocathode [3] is prepared by direct coating of 30 nm gold on the polished surface of the metallic fibre ferrule in which the multimode fibre is connecterized by using epoxy glue as shown in Fig. 1(a), (b), (c).…”

“…First, it is feasible to directly focus the cathode driving laser to a spot size similar to its wavelength. With this approach the final focusing optics needs to be very close (within a few mm) to the cathode surface, hence a back-illuminated [52][53][54][55] and also high gradient rf field compatible photocathode should be used. One step further, one can nano-engineer an aperture on the back side of the cathode to more precisely control the emission area, as shown in Fig.…”
