Optical design of camera optics for mobile phones

Abstract: At present, compact camera modules are included in many mobile electronic devices such as mobile phones, personal digital assistants or tablet computers. They have various uses, from snapshots of everyday situations to capturing barcodes for product information. This paper presents an overview of the key design challenges and some typical solutions. A lens design for a mobile phone camera is compared to a downscaled 35 mm format lens to demonstrate the main differences in optical design. Particular attention i… Show more

“…Typically acceptable minimum fnumbers, e.g. for camera phones are in the range of 2.25 o 2.8 [10][11][12]. In conclusion, this means that the three quantities, sensor size, aperture diameter and focal length, have to be in the same range to guarantee sufficient light on the detector.…”

“…Das optische Design von Smartphoneobjektiven ist ein Paradigmenwechsel in der Konstruktion von Fotoobjektiven . Klassische sphärische Fotoobjektive für spiegellose Kameras, wie das in Abbildung gezeigte Biogon, nutzen oft das Symmetrieprinzip.…”

“…20 Although there are already many applications in the fields of surveillance, security, and consumer products, miniaturization of panoramic systems still holds many challenges. As a simple starting point, a wide-angle lens can be broken down into two parts: an afocal attachment followed by an objective.…”
