Abstract: Information on the ontogeny of the fish immune system is largely restricted to a few species of teleosts (e.g., rainbow trout, catfish, zebrafish, sea bass) and has previously focused on morphological features. However, basic questions including the identification of the first lympho-hematopoietic sites, the origin of T- and B-lymphocytes and the acquisition of full immunological capacities remain to be resolved.
