Abstract: As is well known, the topical application of pilocarpine in large doses quickly slows and weakens the heart, but requires. usually several hours to greatly weaken or arrest the heart. In our experiments we find that atropia also greatly slows and weakens the heart, and often after some hours arrests it; indeed it appeared to us that atropia affects tbe heart as powerfully as pilocarpine.
