On application of two-dimensional AR modeling of Wigner distribution for efficient coding and effective filtering

Abstract

We demonstrate how 2-D AR modeling of the Wigner distribution can be used to perform efficient coding of WD images and effective filtering of troublesome cross WD components and white noise components. The AR models are obtained using 2-D autocorrelation fitting techniques [7] that are based on nonsymetric half plane (NSHP) or quarter plane (QP) model support. The 2-D AR model provides an alternative timefrequency representation which can have improved time and frequency resolution, fewer cross t e r m and less white noise interference. We provide examples demonstrating that 2-D AR modeling of the WD reduces the storage computation by one to two orders of magnitude.
