Abstract: The article considers aspects of Cromwell's finances, his relationship with John Thurloe and the marriage negotiations concerning his son Richard, all in the period 1646±8. This is based on a previously unnoticed document from chancery proceedings in the Public Record Office. The article argues that Thurloe had a professional relationship with Cromwell earlier than previously thought. It sheds light on the marriage negotiations of Richard Cromwell and Dorothy Maijor and in particular on the transitional phase…
