Abstract: Recently the high incidence of worldwide Candida infections has substantially increased. The growing problem about toxicity of antifungal drugs and multidrug resistance aggravates the need for the development of new effective strategies. Natural compounds in this context represent promising alternatives having potential to be exploited for improving human health. The present study was therefore designed to evaluate the antifungal effect of a naturally occurring phenolic, octyl gallate (OG), on Candida albicans… Show more

“…The cells were harvested by centrifugation at 5000 g for 3 min. The cell-free extract was prepared as described elsewhere (Saibabu et al 2019). Briefly, the cells were washed once with lysis buffer (100 mmol potassium PB, pH 7Á5; 2 mmol MgCl 2 ; 1 mmol DTT) and centrifuged again at 5000 g for 3 min to collect the cell pellet.…”

“…Octyl gallate (G8) is the eight‐carbon alkyl ester of gallic acid (G0). G8 is applied in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries due to its antioxidant properties . Its alkyl chain contributes to the increased lipophilicity, affinity, and permeability through the cell plasma membranes .…”
