Obstructive sleep apnea treatment in adults

Abstract: Sleep‐related breathing disorders are complex problems that decrease quality of life and increase morbidity and mortality in patients. Comprehensive evaluation is essential for selecting and planning obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) treatments. However, the many proposed OSA treatments are rarely compared in the literature. The literature on OSA consists largely of case series studies, and the paucity of controlled studies makes comparisons of OSA treatments difficult. This article provides a brief overview of th… Show more

“…Morbidity rate of OSA in the common population is between 9 to 38% and is currently hire among males, older and overweight people [2]. Although OSA is often asymptomatic and unworthily underrated, it is associated with a higher risk of developing secondary arterial hypertension, atrial fibrillation, stroke, coronary artery disease [3], heart failure [4], diabetes [5], vehicle accidents, deterioration of cognitive function and overall lower quality of life [1,6]. Loud snoring, obesity, increased circumference of the neck as well as an elevation in Epworth sleepiness scale scores allow doctors to suspect the disorder, but polysomnography still remains as the standard of OSA diagnostics [6].…”

“…В соответствии с величиной этого показателя выделяют легкую -ИАГ 5-14 эпизодов/ч, среднюю -ИАГ 15-29 эпизодов/ч, и тяжелую -ИАГ ≥30 эпизодов/ч, степени тяжести ОАС [2], что играет важную роль в отношении определения тактики лечения, прогноза течения и исхода заболевания. По данным литературы, распространенность ОАС составляет 9-41% всего населения земного шара [3,4].…”
