Background Budgetary participation has a positive impact on a variety of emotional and behavioural responses. However, the review of empirical studies conducted in Tunisia reveals a low participation rate among operating managers in the budget control systems of their companies. Research aims The purpose of this study is to understand, from a contingency perspective, the practices of budgetary participation in Tunisian companies. It aims to explore forms of budgetary participation practised by Tunisian companies and examine to what extent Tunisian cultural variables explain these budgetary behaviours. Methodology A qualitative methodology based on a single case study was used. The data collected were the subject of a thematic content analysis. Findings The results show that the Tunisian companies have serious difficulties engaging in budgetary participation. Several factors hinder the implementation and operation of this budgetary practice. The primary factors include personality variables that, although interact with cultural values rooted in Tunisian society, create a psychological inconsistency between the ideal environment for the development and success of a participative approach and the environment of the Tunisian company.

A coupled 2D-3D catchment-lake model with a parallel processing framework

Modeling catchment-lake interactions is computationally demanding, usually requiring coupled numerical models and parallel processing capabilities. However, models with these requirements are still rare. In this paper, we developed a coupled 2D-3D model for lake catchments using a parallel scheme that leverages processing power of GPU and multiple CPUs. The model allows for hydrodynamic simulation applications considering diffuse water flows at the interface between the catchment and the lake. We coupled the Environmental Fluid Dynamics Code (EFDC) with a two-dimensional shallow water model and test it on the Peri Lake Catchment in southern Brazil. The results revealed the ability of the model simulate lake water levels as well as the diffuse inputs of water and solutes, providing the possibility of its use in lake and reservoir water management.

RESUMO:O monitoramento hidrológico de pequenas bacias hidrográficas, principalmente em bacias com grande diferença altimétrica e coberta por florestas ainda é escasso. Nesse sentido, o presente trabalho objetiva analisar o escoamento superficial em escala de eventos de chuva e relacionar as variáveis hidrológicas da bacia hidrográfica do rio Forqueta (Maquiné/RS), sul do Brasil. Para isso, foi realizado o monitoramento hidrológico na bacia por meio de um pluviógrafo e uma estação meteorológica para a precipitação e um linígrafo para a vazão, ambos registrando dados em intervalos de 10 minutos. Após obtenção, os dados foram organizados e foram selecionados os eventos de chuvavazão. Na sequência, foi realizada a separação do escoamento superficial. No total foram contabilizados 52 eventos de chuva-vazão e extraídos doze variáveis hidrológicas de cada evento. Foram realizadas análises de correlação entre essas variáveis e foi analisada a diferença dessas variáveis sazonalmente. Os resultados mostraram que, na área de estudo, eventos isolados de chuva foram responsáveis por 50,88% do escoamento superficial. O monitoramento hidrológico em escala de eventos de chuva é essencial para mostrar o comportamento do escoamento superficial em pequenas bacias hidrográficas de forma mais detalhada e pode auxiliar na gestão dos recursos hídricos.
