Abstract: O-GlcNAcylation is a unique monosaccharide modification that is ubiquitously present in numerous nucleoplasmic and mitochondrial proteins. The hexosamine biosynthesis pathway (HBP), which is a key branch of glycolysis, provides the unique sugar donor UDP-GlcNAc for the O-GlcNAc modification.
