Numerical Analysis of the Degradation Characteristics of Bearing Capacity of a Corroded Reinforced Concrete Beam

Abstract: e static load carrying capacity of a noncorroded reinforced concrete (RC) simply supported beam is numerically simulated by ABAQUS software, and the reliability of the finite element model is verified by comparing with the test results. Based on the above model, the macroscopic mechanical properties of the beam under different degrees of corrosion are calculated. In the calculation, the degradation of the bond-slip performance and mechanical properties of corroded rebars and the coupling effect on the bearing … Show more

“…From the experimental and numerical investigation of reinforced concrete beam exposed to corrosion (Chaitanya and Vamsi, 2014; Zhao et al , 2018), the load-carrying capacity and ductility of the beam are reduced, but the curvature increases consequently the deflection increases. From another experimental investigation (Ullah, 2017; Apostolopoulos and Kappatos, 2013; Ahmad, 2017), the ultimate capacities of all the beams are less than that of the control beam, and capacity loss is more in heavy corrosion.…”

“…Shotcrete and formwork concrete are described by the concrete plastic-damage constitutive model that simulates the cracking and crushing of concrete materials. e concrete plastic-damage model can be used to simulate the dynamic loading of blasting loads and has good convergence in the degradation of elastic stiffness caused by tensile and plastic strain [25][26][27]. e loading function of the concrete plastic-damage constitutive model is…”

“…Zhao ve diğ. [22] korozyona uğramış basit mesnetli betonarme kirişin statik yük taşıma kapasitesini nümerik olarak incelemiştir. Düşük korozyon seviyesindeki betonarme kirişte aderansta ve yük taşıma kapasitesinde meydana gelen azalmanın çok önemli olmadığı, ancak yüksek korozyon seviyesinde önemli bir etkiye sahip olduğu belirtilmiştir.…”
