Novel Treatment of Neck Wrinkles with an Intradermal Radiofrequency Device

Abstract: Neck wrinkles commonly develop owing to the aging process. However, recently, the number of patients with neck wrinkles has been increasing. Also, an increasing number of young patients have presented with this condition, possibly because of the effect of the head-down posture that they adopt when using their computer or smartphone. We report two cases of young adults with a prominent neck wrinkle. In case 1, a 29-year-old woman with a neck wrinkle was treated with six intradermal radiofrequency (RF) procedure… Show more

“…Indeed, neck wrinkle formation is partly due to aging and sagging of the skin, but changes in head posture are also an important factor involved in this phenomenon since they increase mechanical stresses in this area. 33 As mannose-6-phosphate complex proved on an ex vivo level to have a beneficial impact on the biomechanical properties of the skin, we decided to evaluate its impact on neck wrinkle size and depth. As we hoped, mannose-6-phosphate complex significantly decreased neck wrinkle size and depth after 28 and 56 days in relation to day 0 and versus placebo on each occasion.…”

“…We subsequently wished to conduct further research to determine the impact of this active on a specific wrinkle formed as a result of mechanical stress, that is, neck wrinkles. Indeed, neck wrinkle formation is partly due to aging and sagging of the skin, but changes in head posture are also an important factor involved in this phenomenon since they increase mechanical stresses in this area 33 . As mannose‐6‐phosphate complex proved on an ex vivo level to have a beneficial impact on the biomechanical properties of the skin, we decided to evaluate its impact on neck wrinkle size and depth.…”

“…This causes collagen contraction along with a wound healing response, which then cascades into collagen remodeling and skin tightening. 3 The favored device in our clinical practice is the FDA cleared Genius  (Lutronic Aesthetic). This device consists of a 49 pin tip that is 1cmx1cm in size and uses a bipolar array of insulated microneedles to deliver heat to target tissues.…”

“…48 There have been several proposed treatment options to treat tech neck, including injection of neurotoxin, use of radiofrequency devices, and microfocused ultrasound. 48 Also, older adults may be negatively affected by cell phone use when it comes to mobility, posture, and balance. Adults over 65 years require increased cognitive workload when using cell phones.…”
