Abstract: The positive interaction of materials with tissues is an important step in regenerative medicine strategies. Hydrogels that are obtained from polysaccharides and proteins are expected to mimic the natural cartilage environment and thus provide an optimum milleu for tissue growth and regeneration. In this work, novel hydrogels composed of blends of chitosan and Bombyx mori silk fibroin were cross-linked with genipin (G) and were freeze dried to obtain chitosan/silk (CSG) sponges. CSG sponges possess stable and … Show more

(Silva et al 2008, Hu et al 2006, Kweon and Park 1999, Tsukada 1986 …”

“…The fibroin protein and chitosan are also widely applied in tissue engineering scaffolds; however, when used alone some shortcomings are apparent. Therefore, the two were mixed to make scaffolds for soft tissue repair, and positive research outcomes were achieved (Silva et al, 2008;Gunbeyaz et al, 2010). In previous experiments, our research team found that mixing fibroin protein and chitosan in the right proportions could make up for their individual disadvantages.…”

“…Currently, biomaterials that have been proposed and tested on lab animals are: polycaprolactone (Reed et al 2009), polyethylene glycol (Briggs et al 2009), polyvinylalcohols ), polyurethane (Shin et al 2009), collagen (Lin et al 2008), silk (Silva et al 2008), alginate , Penolazzi et al 2010, starch (Martins et al 2009) . The most interesting, however, is chitin, a substance of animal origin which is part of the external shells of invertebrates and the cell walls of bacteria and fungi (Tuzlakoglu et al 2004, Majima et al 2007).…”
