Novas sinonímias e correções em Simulium com a revalidação de S. pruinosum Lutz, 1904 (Culicomorpha, Simuliidae)

Abstract: Consideram-se Simulium antunesi (Lane & Porto, 1940), S. mauense Nunes de Mello, 1974 e S. nilesi Rambajam, 1979 sinonímias de Simulium perflavum Roubaud, 1906; S. sucamense Nunes de Mello, 1974 e S. santaelenae Ramirez-Pérez & Peterson, 1981 sinonímias de S. (Psilopelmia) iracouboense Floch & Abonnenc, 1946; S. major Lane & Porto, 1940 sinonímia S. (Helmicnetha) rubrithorax Lutz, 1909. Ressalta-se a utilização errônea do nome Grenierella para o subgênero Grenieriella Vargas & Nájera, 1951.… Show more

“…In their paper on specific synonymies of Neotropical species, Shelley et al (1984) examined the two extant female types of S. nigrimanum in the MNHN and concluded that in Macquart's description the reference to male (as % ) was a typographical error, and synonymised S. pruinosum Lutz with S. nigrimanum. This has not been accepted by two authorities (Py-Daniel, 1989, Coscarón, 1991 who preferred to maintain S. pruinosum as a valid species and S. nigrimanum as a species inquirendae, but Howard (1997, 2004) maintained this synonymy. Full descriptions of S. nigrimanum may be found in Coscarón (1991) [as S. pruinosum], Shelley et al (2000), and Vulcano (1959) [as S. pruinosum].…”

Rambajan (1979) described S. nilesi from the southern Rupunini District, but this name was later synonymised with S. perflavum by Py-Daniel (1989).
