Nonlinear Analysis of RC Box Culverts Resting on a Linear Elastic Soil

Abstract: In the analyses presented, the soil-structure interaction is accounted for by means of a FE-BIE approach, in which the structure is modelled with displacement-based beam finite elements, whereas the boundary between structure and substrate is described in terms of surface tractions by means of a boundary integral equation incorporating a suitable Green's function. This mixed formulation ensures full continuity between structure and substrate in terms of displacements and rotations. To take account of structura… Show more

“…To obtain significant responses using this method, the entire system must be discretized to a large number of finite and infinite elements which complicate the computational task [8]. The FEM is employed as a device to describe the behavior both of the beam and soil medium having various profiles [9,10].…”

“…A summary of selected papers from highly ranked, international scientists can be found in (Bedon et al, 2018a). Among the submitted contributors, the covered topics are various and equally important for the science and knowledge development and include an insight on innovative reinforcement techniques for masonry walls (Akhoundi et al, 2018) the design of a multifunctional hybrid steel-glass structure (Froli and Laccone, 2018); the application of diagnostic surveying to existing buildings (Concu et al, 2018) the nonlinear behaviour of RC culverts on elastic soil (Baraldi et al, 2018). The application of infrared thermography approaches for the characterization of painted masonry vaults in historical buildings is proposed by (Casapulla et al, 2018).…”
