A Quality Improvement Project for Non-pharamacological Pain and Stress Management

“…The percentage of improvement in best practice scores increased from 0% at baseline to 59% at PDSA. 3 Areas that showed the most improvement were rest before procedures, pacing of the procedure and facilitation of self-regulation. Areas identified for further improvement were provision of a sweet oral solution for painful procedures, support from a second person and facilitation of sucking.…”

“…There are sufficient evidence that supports efficacy in reducing pain-relating behaviors for NNS, swaddling and FT in preterm and term neonates. [ 1 ] KMC appears to be effective, as measured by composite pain score including physiological and behavioral indicators and safe for single painful procedures, alone or combined with other NPIs. [ 2 ] Small volumes of 24% sucrose with or without NNS reduced efficiently behavioral expressions of pain and crying time, as well as PIPP scores.…”
