Non-IgE-Mediated Gastrointestinal Food Protein-Induced Allergic Disorders. Clinical Perspectives and Analytical Approaches

Abstract: Non-IgE-mediated gastrointestinal food allergy (non-IgE-GI-FA) is the name given to a series of pathologies whose main entities are food protein-induced allergic proctocolitis (FPIAP), food protein-induced enteropathy (FPE), and food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES). These are more uncommon than IgE-mediated food allergies, their mechanisms remain largely unknown, and their diagnosis is mainly done by clinical history, due to the lack of specific biomarkers. In this review, we present the latest … Show more

“…Entamoeba histolytica and the implications were studied 138 . Taking the greater longevity into perspective, studies on reptile GM should give an in depth account to the epigenetic changes 139 . Combining epigenetic changes and GM could unearth the mechanisms underpinning non‐IgE‐mediated gastrointestinal food allergy 140 .…”

“…138 Taking the greater longevity into perspective, studies on reptile GM should give an in depth account to the epigenetic changes. 139 Combining epigenetic changes and GM could unearth the mechanisms underpinning non-IgEmediated gastrointestinal food allergy. 140 Although epigenetic factors are studied to mediate the interaction between the genome and environment, both intestinal immune homeostasis monogenic defects and very early-onset IBD are hopeful for new direction of treatment.…”

“…AAFs are recommended when symptoms do not resolve with EHF, failure to thrive, multiple food allergies, and eosinophilic esophagitis. 73,74 The European Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommended avoiding soybased formulas due to a high risk of co-reactivity with cow's milk. In addition, there are concerns based on animal data regarding the phytoestrogen content in soy-based formula and the potential risk for infants, especially premature and infants with congenital hypothyroidism (CH).…”

“…IgE-mediated food allergy is much more common than non-IgE-mediated food allergy, symptoms are easily recognizable, and underlying mechanisms are better established. Although the relationship between food allergy and gastrointestinal dysfunction has been known for several years, the exact mechanisms involved have yet to be clearly defined [120].…”
