The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between nomophobia levels of high school students and their Internet Addiction. This study also investigates the factors including duration of smartphone and mobile Internet use that trigger and create this phenomenon. In order to explore the prevalence of nomophobia among high school students, the survey model was adopted in this study. As part of this survey, 929 high school students were randomly selected among 9th to 12th graders from Turkish high schools in different socioeconomic areas of Afyon, Ankara, and Mardin provinces. In the data collection process, a demographics questionnaire was employed, as well as a nomophobia scale and Internet addiction scale. According to the results, the nomophobia levels of high school students were found to be slightly above average. Pertaining to gender differences, female students have a higher tendency to exhibit nomophobic behaviors compared to male students. Additionally, students' grade levels (which could also be considered as age) has no effect on the prevalence of nomophobia. Considering the duration of smartphone ownership, it was found that the longer the duration of smartphone usage, the higher the risk of exhibiting nomophobic behaviors. Finally, the results indicated that the higher the level of student Internet addiction, the more nomophobic behaviors they tend to exhibit.

El objetivo de este trabajo es abordar las formas de uso y el impacto que está teniendo Whatsapp en la construcción de identidad visual online, la aplicación que domina el mercado de las comunicaciones móviles y se ha convertido en herramienta comunicativa habitual en nuestros días. Como metodología de trabajo utilizamos un cuestionario estratificado diseñado con el fin de evaluar los hábitos y formas de uso y, especialmente, las imágenes de perfil que se utilizan, en tanto que elemento determinante para la construcción de identidades individuales y grupales online. Como resultado de nuestra investigación, hemos encontrado sobre todo diferencias significativas en los hábitos de uso y la forma de construcción de identidad visual en Whatsapp en función del género y la edad, con menor incidencia de otras variables. Como conclusión, podemos constatar que la popularización masiva de las comunicaciones con dispositivos móviles promueve la tendencia a la gestión estratégica consciente de la identidad visual online y a la orientación grupal de los usuarios, en línea con otros trabajos recientes.

Mobile phones have entered our lives through technological developments, becoming the most commonly used technological device. In the last decade, they can now process almost every task that can be done with a computer. In particular, people who have been provided several advantages with their smart phones through an Internet connection are spending more and more time on mobile phones. Excessive use of mobile phones has become an addiction in society. The ability to access the Internet anytime on mobile phones, in addition to social applications and online games, increases Internet and mobile phone addiction. This study is based on the components model approach, developed within the scope of behavioral addictions to actualize the mobile phone addiction scale. Structural analysis was performed on this model, which proved it to be applicable as a mobile addiction scale. In the study, data from 284 participants was used, and mobile addiction was determined to relate to withdrawal, relapse, tolerance, and salience.
