Corrosion Resistance of Alumina-Sialon Refractories for Application in Aluminium Industry

Sialon-based refractories can be a solution as their low wettability by liquid aluminium was reported earlier [2][3][4]. Sialon ceramics based on the solid solution of AlN and Al 2 O 3 in β-Si 3 N 4 show excellent corrosion resistance to molten steel [5], slags and aluminium [4,6] but for application in a modern aluminium continuous casting system the refractories for the feed tube must meet additional requirements: porosity must be in the micrometer range as well as a low surface roughness and high dimension tolerance apart from the low production cost are essential.…”
