Ni-Directed biphase N-doped Mo2C as an efficient hydrogen evolution catalyst in both acidic and alkaline conditions

Abstract: The development of an efficient and low-cost catalyst is of great significance to the future of electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Herein, a series of Ni,N co-doping Mo2C nanostructures (Nix-Mo2C/N)...

“…The observed interplanar spacing of the lattice planes is 0.228 nm (Fig. 3g), which could be considered as the (101) planes of Mo 2 C. 26 The apparent lattice fringes conrmed good crystallinity. The selected area electron diffraction (SAED) pattern (inset of Fig.…”

“…Doping heteroatom is known as one of effective methods by introducing other atoms into the lattice of Mo 2 C MXene in occupying vacancies or replacing lattice atoms. [99][100][101] The heteroatom can tune electronic properties, promote the redistribution of surface charge, and lower the reaction energy barrier by changing elemental composition of Mo 2 C MXene, further increasing the intrinsic catalytic activity. [102,103] The doped atoms can be metals, such as Ru, Fe, and Co, or nonmetals, such as N, S, and P. Nowadays, two types of metal-atom doping and nonmetalatom doping for Mo 2 C MXene have been fully discussed.…”

“…An in-situ transition metal-doped W2C NSs was achieved by carburization of transition metal ions-adsorbed WO3 precursor, in which the Ni-doped W2C showed the outmost HER activity in all pH ranges [87]. Meanwhile, the transition metal doping was also found to have a direct influence on the phase transformation from cubic α-Mo2C to hexagonal β-Mo2C, accompanied by an improved HER activity [88][89][90][91]. As revealed by Ma et al [92], the introduction of Co atoms in the Mo2C generated Mo vacancies as well.…”
