New simplified radio-opaque injection technique for visualization of rat arteries
Abstract: We have developed a new and simplified injection technique based on a mixture of latex and lead oxide. This injection technique is unique in its possession of both color and radio-opacity. We have developed and refined this methodology in rats, and have demonstrated it to possess superior qualities of injectability. Depiction of small vessels is highly detailed both radiographically and grossly.

“…Considering the short recovery time and immediate results, facial filler injection is a popular choice for facial rejuvenation. 20 Severe complications, such as blindness and cerebral infarction generally occur secondary to the inadvertent damage or cannulation of vasculature. 2,13,21 The location of the forehead adjacent to the eyes makes it easily vulnerable.…”

“…The CT contrast-agent injection was slightly modified from that described in a previously reported method. 20 We mixed 40 grams of lead oxide (Shantou Guanghua Chemical Co., Ltd., People's Republic of China) with 5 mL of red dye and 100 mL of latex. The mixture was continuously stirred, and then, the suspension was filtered to remove the lead oxide particles.…”

“…The model presented in this article is reliable and reproducible. The modified lead oxide injection technique 15 is useful in that the dissection and angiography can be performed from a single and simple preparation. Our anatomic and angiographic assessment of 16 fibulae in eight rats has demonstrated consistent structure and blood supply.…”

“…In the anatomical studies, all animals underwent angiograms to identify the bony structure and blood supply of the fibula using the lead oxide latex injection technique. 15 The x-ray setting for angiograms was 23 kV, 5.5 MAS 1/20 sec, and 1.5 magnification with standard x-ray film. After angiography, careful dissections were performed to allow measurements of the dimension and length of the fibular bone and the caliber and length of significant vessels.…”
