The diet is a commercial mixture called Mubarqui ® and is made up of amaranth, sugar, peanuts and eggs (Leal‐Mubarqui, 2005; Quintero‐Fong et al., 2020). The wild flies were fed a mixture of sugar (brown standard; Grupo Porres, Huixtla, Chiapas, Mexico) and enzymatic hydrolysed yeast (MP Biomedicals, LLC, CA, USA, catalogue number 199,535) at a ratio of 3:1 and water ad libitum supplied in 100 ml bottles with cotton wicks.…”
