New Polymeric Materials Based on Element-Blocks

Abstract: The concept and representative examples of "element-block polymers" are described. A structural unit consisting of various groups of elements is called an "element-block." In this review, unique properties of "element-block polymers" composed of organoboron complexes, o-carboranes, and polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes as typical examples of element blocks are illustrated. The design and synthesis of new element-blocks and development of methods forming higher-order structures for realizing the desired fun… Show more

“…In addition, we recently suggested a new concept of organicinorganic hybrid materials named 'element-block' materials. 20 As some the examples, we demonstrate boron compounds and POSS materials here. By using boron compounds as one of functional units of element-blocks, the resulting materials showed unique properties, such as high electron transportation 21,22 and near-infrared (NIR) luminescence, 2325 aggregation-induced emission (AIE) 2639 and crystallization-induced emission (CIE) 28,4043 properties.…”

“…22 The tetrasilaplatinacycles 2a and 2b release the tetramers 3a and 3b upon addition of excess silafluorene. The X-ray crystallographic and NMR spectroscopic results of the products revealed π-stacking interaction between the biphenylene groups in the solid state and in solution.…”

“…Fujii et al [28,29] have synthesized novel for sterically stabilized polypyrrole-palladium (PPy-Pd) nanocomposite particles. Such a characteristic particle containing heavy element has recently been attracting intensively general interests of researchers in many fields under the name of element-blocks [30]. Figure 17 shows a TEM image of these particles with a schematic of the structure.…”
