New measures of diabetes self‐care agency, diabetes self‐efficacy, and diabetes self‐management for insulin‐treated individuals with type 2 diabetes

Abstract: The scales can be used by diabetes care providers to assess and follow-up individuals with diabetes who need intense case management. They also can be the measures of choice to conduct future research to test the effects of interventions among insulin-treated individuals with T2DM.

“…Regarding convergent validity, the hypothesis of a correlation between capacity for self-care and social support (r=0.12; p 0.17) was not supported, despite knowing that the environmental factor "social support" influences an individual's capacity for self-care (4,5) and is a strategy for increasing one's engagement with self-care. (12) One variable that might have influenced this result was patients' heightened perception about their access to emotional, affective and material support (98% of interviewees do not live alone).…”

The Perceived Health Status instrument was used by other studies that used the original ASAS version with 24 items.…”

Different approaches have been developed, and a range of education programs are available; furthermore, different scales are available to measure the overall quality and specific components of DSM (36)(37)(38)(39)(40).…”
