New determination of dynamic permittivity and resonant frequency of tunable circular disk microstrip structures

Abstract: A new and simple dynamic permittivity expression for the circular disk microstrip structure including air gap is determined and used in the resonant frequency calculation. The formulation provides the best fit with the experiments for fundamental and higher order modes. The proposed dynamic permittivity expression is valid for thin and thick gaps and is well suited to be used in the computer‐aided design of the tunable characteristics of the structure. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. “…It is seen from Tables and that when the substrate electrically thickness h/λ d is less than 0.1, the ARD between the simulated resonant frequency results and the calculated resonant frequency results using the new effective radius expression and the other formulae given in Refs. and is less than 2%, but the MRD for the formulae given in Refs. and is greater than 3%.…”

“…The minimum ARD and MRD are obtained using the formulae given in Ref. , which are 0.804% and 1.907%, respectively. However, when the substrate electrically thickness h/λ d ranges from 0.1 to 0.2, the calculated resonant frequency results using the new effective radius expression are more accurate than those predicted using the previous methods.…”
