New Data on Chronology of Landscape-Paleoclimatic Stages in Northwestern Russia During the Late Glacial and Holocene

Abstract: Two lake and bog sediments have been thoroughly studied using palynological and radiocarbon dating methods. These are the Lembolovskoye Lake section located in the southern part of the Karelian Ithmus and the Mshinskoye bog section located in the southwestern part of the Leningrad province. The data obtained allow us to reconstruct the main features of the vegetation cover evolution, the chronology for the appearance and a real distribution of the main arboreal species from the south of the Leningrad province … Show more

“…ka BP based on Greenland ice-core stratigraphy (Rasmussen et al 2014) by c. 270 years, however, almost within the range of uncertainty in both records. The regional climate at the beginning of the Holocene was relatively dry and cold (Arslanov et al 2001;Wohlfarth et al 2004). ka BP, corresponding with LZ Vb, can be regarded as a transitional unit.…”

“…Despite the general warming since the Lateglacial, regional climate during the Early Holocene remained relatively cold and dry (Arslanov et al 2001;Heikkil€ a et al 2010;Shelekhova & Lavrova 2011;Subetto et al 2017). In general, lower than present temperatures (by 1-2°C in July and by 2-2.5°C in January) and lower annual precipitation (by 25-30 mm) in the region during the Early Holocene have been reconstructed (Arslanov et al 2001). ka BP (Subetto et al 2002).…”
