New benzenesulphonohydrazide derivatives as potential antitumour agents

Abstract: Cancer treatment remains a serious challenge worldwide. Thus, finding novel antitumour agents is of great importance. In the present study, nine new benzenesulphonohydrazide derivatives (1-9) were synthesized, and the chemical structures of the obtained compounds were confirmed by spectral analysis methods, including IR, 1 H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and 13 C NMR. Experimental lipophilicity values were established using reversed phase-high performance thin layer chromatography. The antiproliferative act… Show more

“…In addition, in the HT-29 colon tumors, the anti-angiogenic and anti-proliferative properties of sorafenib have also been demonstrated [ 54 , 55 ]. On the other hand, hydrazide-hydrazones have shown a remarkable antiproliferative activity against a panel of cancer cells including liver and colon cancers [ 56 ]. These findings motivated us to direct our efforts towards developing potent anti-cancer compounds by hybridization of the two pharmacophores urea and hydrazide.…”

“…Today, one of the main causes of death worldwide is cancer, which develops when one or more cells from a certain tissue in the body deviate from their usual properties and multiply uncontrollably. 1,2 According to the findings of recent studies, female breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer, with 11.7% of cases and 6.9% of all cancer deaths, followed by lung (11.4%), colorectal (10.0%), prostate (7.3%), and stomach (5.6%) cancers. 3,4 In recent years, intensive studies have been carried out around the world for the development of new drugs that can act against cancer.…”

“…[ 36,37 ] Sulfonyl hydrazone derivatives have been among the group of compounds frequently used for the discovery of new molecules of biological importance in recent years. It has been determined that these compounds show a wide range of pharmacological properties such as antibacterial [ 38 ] , antioxidant [ 39 ] , anticancer [ 40 ] , antidepressant properties [ 41 ] , and anticholinesterase activity against AD [ 42 ] (Figure 1).…”
