New approach for the treatment of vertical root fracture of teeth: A case report and review of literature

Abstract: BACKGROUND Vertical root fracture (VRF) is one of the most common reasons for tooth extraction, although various methods have been applied for saving teeth with VRF. CASE SUMMARY This case report describes a woman who had a sinus tract on the labial gingiva of the left maxillary central incisor for past two months. Periodontal probing revealed an 8–10 mm deep, narrow, isolated pocket on the palatal side of the tooth. Clinical and radiographic examination confirmed a lon… Show more

“…The filling material used in this case, iRoot BP Plus, is a hydrophilic calcium silicate-based bioceramic material with excellent mechanical properties, sealing ability, and antibacterial activity, which promotes osteo-/odontogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells. [13,14] DAT is a similar technique which is only considered when affected teeth are unrestorable. Compared to IR, it is usually more challenging because of incompatible anatomy between the recipient site and the donor tooth, which has to be considered before surgery.…”

“…142 Vertical root fracture (VRF) generally has a hopeless prognosis but despite this, there are several reports demonstrating satisfactory clinical outcomes after sealing the fractures with MTA, Biodentine, or iRoot BP Plus. [143][144][145][146] However, these cases only had short review periods of <3 years, so longer-term outcomes are uncertain.…”
