“…The results are in agreement with previous research that identified higher NLR in patients with AD when compared to age-matched controls ( Kuyumcu et al, 2012 ; Rembach et al, 2014 ). The NLR ratio has also been associated with conditions related to AD risk and influencing progressions, such as CVD ( Angkananard et al, 2018 ; Kim et al, 2018 ; Haybar et al, 2019 ), obstructive sleep apnea ( Altintas et al, 2015 ; Sunbul et al, 2015 ; Oyama et al, 2016 ; Rha et al, 2020 ), depression ( Aydin Sunbul et al, 2016 ; Demircan et al, 2016 ; Arabska et al, 2018 ; Liang et al, 2019 ), and obesity ( Rodriguez-Rodriguez et al, 2020 ). Our findings are therefore consistent with previous research that identified an association of the NLR with AD and related risk factors.…”

“…NLR is calculated as ratio between absolute NEUT count and absolute LYM count. In a previous study, it was reported that NLR is increased in elderly patients after the first episode of depression (Arabska et al, 2018). Additionally, the NLR was significantly higher in unmedicated patients with depression than in healthy controls (2.10 ± 2.13 vs 2.01 ± 0.75, p = 0.004), and it was higher after the first episode of depression than after recurrent episodes (2.11 ± 1.76 vs 1.64 ± 1.04, p < 0.05).…”

“…Concerning unipolar depression, Mazza et al (2018) also confirmed that NLR increased in MDD compared with healthy controls [ 36 ]. NLR seems to be correlated with the disease severity in unipolar depressed patients although research data presents contradictory results on this subject [ 37 , 38 , 39 , 40 ].…”
