Abstract: Many neural disorders are characterized by the loss of one or several types of neural cells. Human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal cells (hUCMs) are capable of differentiating into neuron, astroglia-like and oligodendrocyte cell types. However, a reliable means of inducing the selective differentiation of hUCMs into neural cells in vitro has not yet been established. For induction of neural differentiation, hUCMs were seeded onto sterile glass slides and six various cocktails using a base medium (DMEM/LG) s… Show more

“…For neural differentiation, according to the procedure described before (Salehinejad et al 2014), the HWJ-MSCs at the fourth passage were seeded into 75-cm 2 Costar culture flasks in a humidified atmosphere of 95 % air/5 % CO 2 at a density of 1 9 10 4 cells/ml with basic medium for 24 h. Then the cells were treated with 10 -2 M RA (retinol acetate; Sigma), 20 ng/ml EGF (epidermal growth factor; sigma), and 20 ng/ml bFGF (basic fibroblast growth factor; sigma) for 2 weeks.…”

“…7 Lu et al 8 has reported successful differentiation of bone marrow (BMS) cells into neural lineage including astrocytes and neurons. Also, Salehinejad et al 9 reported that hUCMs could successfully differentiate into various neural cells under certain conditions. Cell transplantation could have lead to the repair of damaged brain tissue and functional recovery in preclinical stroke models.…”

“…Immunocytochemistry procedure of the OECs was obtained from Salehinejad et al (36). Briefly, cultured cells were fixated, washed, incubated with primary antibodies, including mouse monoclonal anti-S 100 β (Chemicon) and mouse anti-p75 (Abcam, USA).…”
