Abstract: Background: Functional foods are characterized by offering several health benefits beyond the nutritional value inherent in their chemical composition. Fruits are good suppliers of minerals, vitamins, fiber, and water. Some fruits can even provide small amounts of carbohydrates among other ingredients.
