It was noticed many years ago, in the framework of massless RG flows, that the irrelevant composite operator TT, built with the components of the energy-momentum tensor, enjoys very special properties in 2D quantum field theories, and can be regarded as a peculiar kind of integrable perturbation. Novel interesting features of this operator have recently emerged from the study of effective string theory models.In this paper we study further properties of this distinguished perturbation. We discuss how it affects the energy levels and one-point functions of a general 2D QFT in finite volume through a surprising relation with a simple hydrodynamic equation. In the case of the perturbation of CFTs, adapting a result by Lüscher and Weisz we give a compact expression for the partition function on a finite-length cylinder and make a connection with the exact g-function method. We argue that, at the classical level, the deformation naturally maps the action of N massless free bosons into the Nambu-Goto action in static gauge, in N + 2 target space dimensions, and we briefly discuss a possible interpretation of this result in the context of effective string models.

We extend the Standard Model with an EW fermion triplet, stable thanks to one of the accidental symmetries already present in the theory. On top of being a potential Dark Matter candidate, additional motivations for this new state are the stability of the vacuum, the fact it does not introduce a large fine-tuning in the Higgs mass, and that it helps with gauge coupling unification. We perform an analysis of the reach for such a particle at the high-luminosity Lhc, and at a futuristic 100 TeV pp collider. We do so for the monojet, monophoton, vector boson fusion and disappearing tracks channels. At 100 TeV, disappearing tracks will likely probe the mass region of 3 TeV, relevant for thermally produced Dark Matter. The reach of the other channels is found to extend up to ∼ 1.3 (1.7) TeV for 3 (30) ab −1 of integrated luminosity, provided systematics are well under control. This model also constitutes a benchmark of a typical WIMP Dark Matter candidate, and its phenomenology reproduces that of various models of Supersymmetry featuring a pure Wino as the lightest sparticle.

We study the standard model (SM) in its full perturbative validity range between ΛQCD and the U (1)Y Landau pole, assuming that a yet unknown gravitational theory in the UV does not introduce additional particle thresholds, as suggested by the tiny cosmological constant and the absence of new stabilising physics at the EW scale. We find that, due to dimensional transmutation, the SM Higgs potential has a global minimum at 10 26 GeV, invalidating the SM as a phenomenologically acceptable model in this energy range. We show that extending the classically scale invariant SM with one complex singlet scalar S allows us to: (i) stabilise the SM Higgs potential; (ii) induce a scale in the singlet sector via dimensional transmutation that generates the negative SM Higgs mass term via the Higgs portal; (iii) provide a stable CP-odd singlet as the thermal relic dark matter due to CP-conservation of the scalar potential; (iv) provide a degree of freedom that can act as an inflaton in the form of the CP-even singlet. The logarithmic behaviour of dimensional transmutation allows one to accommodate the large hierarchy between the electroweak scale and the Landau pole, while understanding the latter requires a new non-perturbative view on the SM.
