Abstract: Purpose -To study the natural convention in a square porous cavity induced by heating one of the sidewalls and the other sidewall is cooled, while the horizontal walls are adiabatic. The heated wall is assumed to have spatial sinusoidal temperature variations about a constant mean value. Design/methodology/approach -The Darcy model is used in the mathematical modeling of the natural convection in porous cavity. A finite volume method based on QUICK scheme is used to solve numerically the non-dimensional govern… Show more

“…The iteration process is terminated under the following condition: where ϕ stands for θ w , θ p and Ψ and n denotes the iteration step. This numerical method has been discussed and successfully used in the study of the natural convection in porous cavity by Saeid and Mohammad [5].…”

“…This scheme uses three-point quadratic interpolation for the control volume face values of the dependent variable. Although a (40 × 40) mesh gives acceptable results for zero wall thickness [5], (100 × 100) uniform spacing mesh is used for the computational domain to ensure enough grid points in the different regions. In the solution domain representing the wall, the stream function is set to zero and Eq.…”

“…The developed code is essentially a modified version of a code built and validated in previous work [23][24][25]. The energy balance requires that the heat lost by the lower hot portion must be equal to the heat transferred to the upper cold portion plus the heat being carried out by the fluid at the downstream end.…”

“…Published works in the literature concern mainly the laminar flows in cavities with weak aspect ratios ( < 10) (Roy and Basak 2005;Basak et al 2006;Saeid and Yaacob 2006;Sathiyamoorthy et al 2007;Deng and Chang 2008;Basak et al 2011;Aswatha et al 2011;Aswatha et al 2012;Anandalakshmi and Basak 2013) or with a high value of ( = 40 ) (El Moutaouakil et al (2014b)). Overall, the objective of these works is to study the effect of non-uniform boundary conditions and control parameters on the flow and convective heat transfer characteristics in the cavity.…”
