Plant preparations have been used to treat various diseases and discussed for centuries. Research has advanced to discover and identify the plant components with beneficial effects and reveal their underlying mechanisms. Flavonoids are phytoconstituents with anti-inflammatory, antimutagenic, anticarcinogenic, and antimicrobial properties. Herein, we listed and contextualized various aspects of the protective effects of the flavonols quercetin, isoquercetin, kaempferol, and myricetin and the flavones luteolin, apigenin, 3 ′ ,4 ′ -dihydroxyflavone, baicalein, scutellarein, lucenin-2, vicenin-2, diosmetin, nobiletin, tangeretin, and 5-O-methyl-scutellarein. We presented their structural characteristics and subclasses, importance, occurrence, and food sources. The bioactive compounds present in our diet, such as fruits and vegetables, may affect the health and disease state. Therefore, we discussed the role of these compounds in inflammation, oxidative mechanisms, and bacterial metabolism; moreover, we discussed their synergism with antibiotics for better disease outcomes. Indiscriminate use of antibiotics allows the emergence of multidrug-resistant bacterial strains; thus, bioactive compounds may be used for adjuvant treatment of infectious diseases caused by resistant and opportunistic bacteria via direct and indirect mechanisms. We also focused on the reported mechanisms and intracellular targets of flavonols and flavones, which support their therapeutic role in inflammatory and infectious diseases.

Chemical-enhanced oil recovery (chemical-EOR) is a unique strategy that employs chemical agents with special properties for enhancing crude oil recovery from matured reservoirs. However, chemical-EOR techniques face challenges, such as chemical deterioration under reservoir conditions and high cost. Nanotechnology, through the use of nanoparticles (NPs), and nanofluids (NFs), has shown promise in enhanced oil recovery by improving the thermal stability of chemicals under harsh conditions, reducing interfacial tension, and altering the wettability. Despite these potential advantages, a comprehensive review that addresses the screening requirements, comparative study of different NFs, and assessment of their economic viability is lacking. This review delves into factors impeding the performance of NFs as EOR agents, scrutinizes screening criteria, assesses their compatibility with other EOR techniques, examines real-world field applications, economic viability, and comparative study of chemical-EOR and NPs-assisted chemical-EOR, and elucidates existing opportunities and challenges. The findings suggest that NPs have the potential to serve as partial substitutes for chemicals due to their ability to control fine migration, reduce interfacial tension, alter wettability, and enhance emulsion stability. This highlights significant technical and commercial opportunities for nanotechnology in the field of EOR. The review aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of how nanotechnology can be applied in the chemical-EOR domain, establishing a foundation for research and development in this area

Nanosponges are nanosized drug carriers with a three-dimensional structure created by crosslinking polymers. They have the advantage of being able to hold a wide range of drugs of various sizes. Nanosponges come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They are distinguished by the research method used, the type of polymer used, and the type of drug they may contain. Nanosponges are superior to other delivery systems because they can provide a controlled drug release pattern with targeted drug delivery. The period of action, as well as the drug’s residence time, may be regulated. Since it is made of biodegradable materials, it has a low toxicity and is safe to use. The efficiency of drug encapsulation is determined by the size of the drug molecule and the amount of void space available. Cancer, enzyme and biocatalyst carrier, oxygen delivery, solubility enhancement, enzyme immobilization, and poison absorbent are some of the applications for nanosponges. The method of preparation, characterization, factors affecting nanosponge development, drug loading and release mechanism, recent developments in this area, and patents filed in the area of nanosponges are all highlighted in this study.
