“…Nevus comedonicus is a not so common benign hamartoma characterized by a closely set band of slightly elevated papules topped with darkened keratin plugs arranged in linear or zosteriform groups giving a sieve like appearance. It is due to a defect in the embryologic development of the hair follicle, aplasia or hypoplasia of the sebaceous gland (Carneiro et al, 1972;Sweitzer and Winer, 1932). These lesions appear mostly at birth or child hood (Givan et al, 2010;Guldbakke et al, 2007).…”

“…The first case was described by Selhorst in 1896, and up to 1932 Sweitzer and Winer found 29 cases in the literature (the paper of Ayres and Kane (1933) on the same subject was not accessible). These 29 cases do not represent a cKnical unit, and various names have been suggested, none of which has yet found general recognition : " naevus acneiformis unilateralis " (Selhorst, 1896 ;Colquhoun, 1930) ; '' naevus comedonicus " (Sweitzer and Winer, 1932 ;Ayres and Kane, 1933) ; "naevus follicularis keratosus" (White); " naevus atrophique comedoiiien '' (Brocq) ; " liaevus unius lateris involving the sebaceous glands and pilo-sebaceous follicles " (Barber, 1931), etc. Sweitzer and Winer (1932) suggest a division into two groups : (1) in which the acneiform signs prevail (cysts, suj^puration, fistulae, abscesses and eventually scarring ; to which should be added formation of cheloid) ; (2) in which comedones are the dominant feature.…”
