“…Microscopic examination of the affected ears showed subtotal perforation for all patients (100%). The long history of tympanic membrane repair goes back to 1640 when Banzer used pig bladder in grafting and to 1878 when Berthold repaired a perforation using a fullthickness skin graft, coining the term ""myringoplasty"" [8] .…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…Since tympanoplasty began in 1878, endoscopic ear surgery has been increasingly performed owing to recent technological progress. [18] Previous studies on endoscopic ear surgery reported minimal morbidity and safety. [19][20][21][22] Endoscopic ear surgery has a shorter operative time without external incisions and can avoid mastoidectomies.…”

“…Tympanoplasty was first reported by Berthold in 1878. 7 With the progress in science, its repair materials, methods, techniques, and other aspects have greatly improved. Different types of graft materials have been used in tympanic membrane reconstruction, including the temporalis fascia, papillary periosteum, cartilage, perichondrium, vein, fat, skin, dura mater, and xenografts.…”
