Abstract: Numerous studies have suggested relationships between myeloperoxidase, inflammation, and atherosclerosis. MPO-derived reactive chlorinating species (RCS) attack membrane plasmalogens releasing alpha-chloro-fatty aldehydes (alpha-Cl-FALDs) including 2-chlorohexadecanal (2-ClHDA).
