Muscle Sensor Model Using Small Scale Optical Device for Pattern Recognitions

Abstract: A new sensor system for measuring contraction and relaxation of muscles by using a PANDA ring resonator is proposed. The small scale optical device is designed and configured to perform the coupling effects between the changes in optical device phase shift and human facial muscle movement, which can be used to form the relationship between optical phase shift and muscle movement. By using the Optiwave and MATLAB programs, the results obtained have shown that the measurement of the contraction and relaxation of… Show more

“… Zhao et al (2021) used two PPG sensors combined with a series of algorithms to remove pulsation and body movement interference and achieved an average accuracy of 88.32% for nine postures. In addition, researchers proposed a sensor that measures facial muscle deformation by measuring changes in the light path ( Tamee et al, 2013 ). In this research, three sensors are combined and attached to the subject’s forehead for muscle diagnosis or control auxiliary equipment, but the system lacks relevant experiments to prove its feasibility.…”

“…Assim como em outros sensores de deformação, o ring resonator se baseia também no efeito óptico de tensão (strain-optical effect) que consiste na variação do índice de refração induzido por qualquer deformação aplicada à fibra óptica (TAMEE et al, 2013).…”

“…Recently, Yupapin and Sarapat have shown the advanced optical sensing system that uses the whispering gallery modes (WGMs) of light within a micro-scale modified add-drop filter circuit for various sensing applications [26]. In our previous research [27][28] we developed a conceptual framework and device model of a muscle measurement system using optical devices which measure muscle contractions. As well, the results from our previous research can be used for pattern recognition.…”
