Murine SIGNR1 (CD209b) Contributes to the Clearance of Uropathogenic Escherichia coli During Urinary Tract Infections

Abstract: Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC), a Gram-negative bacterial pathogen, is a major causative agent of urinary tract infections (UTIs). However, the molecular mechanisms of how UPEC causes infections have not been determined. Recent studies indicated that certain enteric Gram-negative bacteria interact with and hijack innate immune receptors DC-SIGN (CD209a) and SIGNR1 (CD209b), often expressed by antigen-presenting cells (APCs), such as macrophages, leading to dissemination and infection. It was not known w… Show more

“…CLRs mediated multiple functions of APCs including antigen presentation (1), T-cell priming against tumor or pathogen antigens (2). The role of Ctype lectin (CLEC) in recognizing pathogens has been long recognized (3)(4)(5)(6)(7)(8)(9). However, the role of CLECs in cancer has not yet been fully elucidated.…”

“…In addition to causing asymptomatic bacteriuria, Escherichia coli uropathogen (UPEC) is the main associated agent, corresponding to about 70 to 90% of cases, where at least half of the cases were acquired in a hospital environment (CORTESE et al, 2018;RAMÍREZ-CASTILLO et al, 2018;CAMPOS et al, 2020;ZHANG et al, 2020). However, other uropathogens can be identified, such as Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, Citrobacter spp., Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Enterobacter spp., Serratia spp., Providencia spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa e Acinetobacter spp.…”
