Multispectral images of peach related to firmness and maturity at harvest

Abstract: Keywords:Fruit Multispectral Vision Ripeness Firmness Maturity Non-destructive Quality Visible spectra Chlorophyll Peach Two multispectral maturity classifications for red soft-flesh peaches ('Kingcrest', 'Rubyrich' and 'Richlady' n = 260) are proposed and compared based on R (red) and R/IR (red divided by infrared) images obtained with a three CCD camera (800 nm, 675 nm and 450 nm). R/IR histograms were able to correct the effect of 3D shape on light reflectance and thus more Gaussian histograms were produced… Show more

“…As an advantage to other classiflcation methods, Ward's method takes into account all histograms of the data set at every level of the grouping, producing very well structured and homogeneous groups (Otto, 2007). Besides, this method gave rise to successful results in previous works investigating fruit ripeness (Lleó et al, 2009;Herrero et al, 2011). AMatLab® devoted code was developed in order to genérate groups automatically on the basis of the input máximum Ward linkage distance, which is derived from the analysis of the cluster tree features.…”

“…The present research proposes two new indexes, Indi and Ind 2 , to be compared with two previously used indexes, Ind 3 (Lleó et al, 2009;Sims and Gamón, 2002) and IAD (Ziosi et al, 2008). All of these indexes were extracted from hyperspectral images, and their corresponding multispectral images were computed.…”

“…This phenomenon did not occur with red tomatoes, which were the ripest. Lleó et al (2009) studied the behaviour of peach images acquired at 680 nm that covered the whole surface of the fruit. As the fruit ripens, the reflection in this band increases due to chlorophyll degradation.…”
