Multidisciplinary approach to the rehabilitation of a crown‐root fracture with original fragment for immediate esthetics: a case report with 4‐year follow‐up

Abstract: Dental practitioners frequently encounter dentoalveolar traumas. According to the severity of the trauma, a large spectrum of complications such as isolated tooth fracture, dentoalveolar fracture or fracture at maxillofacial region may occur. If the isolated tooth fracture occurs particularly at anterior region, the rehabilitation should satisfy both esthetic and functional problems. “…Mobile but still in place fractured fragment needs to be splinted with adjacent teeth if delay is expected in completing endodontic treatment due to possible damage to the periodontium. According to the amount of the restoration, screw posts, cast posts or dentin pins could be used for supporting the fragment [6]. The use of posts increases retention and distributes stress along the root.…”

“…11 Clinical experience and studies indicate that the reattachment of fractured coronal fragments results in successful outcomes that are short and medium term. [12][13][14] A study was conducted by Yilmaz et al in 2008 to evaluate clinically and radiographically the restored teeth using reattachment technique of fractured fragment to the remaining tooth with flowable resin composite. The restored teeth were assessed in terms of parental-patient ratings of satisfaction.…”
