Multi-response optimization of tensile and fracture properties of polypropylene/ethylene-vinyl acetate/exfoliated graphite by the design of experiment

Abstract: Thermoplastic elastomeric nanocomposites have a wide range of applications in the automotive, medical, electronics, and energy sectors. Good mechanical and fracture performances are typically needed to reach the desired properties for the applications. In this study, tensile and fracture properties of exfoliated graphite (EG) filled PP toughened with ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) are examined. Accordingly, four levels of EVA (0, 10, 20, and 30 wt.%) and EG (0, 1, 3, and 5 wt.%) are utilized. The full factorial … Show more

“…It is clear that the βw p parameter reflects the ability of plastic deformation in the ligament region. [63] This decrease can be related to the presence of rigid nanoparticles as a factor for limiting plastic deformation. [16] By comparing the data in Table 3 for P10E2T and P10E4T, it was observed that w e increased by 10% and 2%, respectively, compared to the P10E blend.…”

“…In the case of validation of mathematical models, a comparison of the actual and predicted w f of fracture is essential to verify the accuracy of acquired results from the RSM technique. [ 34,44 ] For this purpose, the actual and predicted values have been compared in Figure 6B. This figure demonstrates that an excellence agreement exists between experimental and predicted values.…”

“…In contrast, the fracture surface of FIBNASIL-PRE showed a relatively smooth area, showing brittle failure, with no signs of high deformation. This should be aligned with low w e and βw p for this compound, [16][17][18][19][20][21] but, the authors reported that FIBNASIL-PRE had the highest EWF parameters.…”
