Multi-Criteria Decision Approach to Design a Vacuum Infusion Process Layout Providing the Polymeric Composite Part Quality

Abstract: The increasingly widespread use of vacuum assisted technologies in the manufacture of polymer-composite structures does not always provide the required product quality and repeatability. Deterioration of quality most often appears itself in the form of incomplete filling of the preform with resin as a result of the inner and outer dry spot formation, as well as due to premature gelation of the resin and blockage of the vacuum port. As experience shows, these undesirable phenomena are significantly dependent on… Show more

“…Moreover, the fabricated composite has its own performance for each individual characteristic; thus, a decision on the optimal composition with the highest degree of fulfillment for all material characteristics is essential. This can be accomplished using the multi-attribute decision-making (MADM) analysis [33,34]. MADM approaches are the systematic ways for determining the importance of attributes (material properties) by examining a specific application and selecting the best candidate material, while eliminating the inappropriate alternatives [35,36].…”

“…As a result, selecting the appropriate composition with the desired sound qualities becomes a challenging task that can be accomplished using multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) tools [ 30 ]. These are statistical methods used to tackle complex decision-making problems utilising a finite number of qualities and options [ 31 ]. MCDM approaches include AHP (analytic hierarchy process), MOORA (multiple objective optimisation on the basis of ratio analysis), TOPSIS (a technique for the ordering of preference by similarity to ideal solution), VIKOR (vise kriterijumska optimizacija kompromisno resenje), MABAC (multi-attributive border approximation area comparison), SAW (simple additive weighting), MEW (multiplicative exponent weighting), and COPRAS (complex proportional assessment) have been effectively deployed to tackle a variety of decision-making problems [ 32 , 33 , 34 , 35 , 36 , 37 ].…”
