The problem of the women’s alcohol addiction is still perceived to be a taboo topic. The aim of the study was to find out what types of motivations drive women, who are addicted to alcohol, to start alcoholism treatment and, what are the effective methods in maintaining abstinence by them. The article presents the results of a qualitative
research. The two in-depth open interviews were conducted with women, who completed the entire therapeutic process. The interlocutors presented a detailed picture of their motivation to stop drinking alcohol and of the life changes that became possible thanks to their abstinence. The interpretation of the research provokes the reflection on the meaning of the sobriety in the women’s lives after the therapy. Sobriety is a clear
state of mind, the awareness that makes it possible to find different values than before. Sobriety means being able to create yourself a new person, to arrange your closest space and reality.
